MWS Migration to SP-API

As a reminder, after August 31, 2023, all private app developers will no longer have access to data from MWS Merchant Fulfillment, Orders, and Reports API sections. We encourage all remaining MWS users to implement plans to migrate off of MWS as soon as possible to avoid service disruptions later this year. This SP-API blog post provides further guidance for private app developers on how to complete this migration.

Rotate your SP-API Credentials Securely and timely with AWS

To reduce the risk of exposed and compromised credentials, starting February 6th, 2023 Selling Partner Developer Services requires all developers to rotate their Login With Amazon (LWA) credentials every 180 days. If SP-API LWA credentials are not updated before the expiration target date, the API integration will lose access to SP-API. All Amazon SP-API developers are required to follow secure coding standards to follow Personal Identifiable Information (PII) requirements from the Data Protection Policy (DPP). Credentials include, but are not limited to, the encryption key, secret access key, password, and other sensitive credentials that are not supposed to be hard-coded.

Update to Prime eligibility criteria starting on June 21, 2023

On June 21, 2023, our Prime eligibility criteria were updated for all sellers in our Germany, France, Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, and Belgium stores following the agreement reached with the European Commission.

Our Prime eligibility and Prime badge criteria will be applied equally to offers from all sellers across the various fulfilment channels (Fulfilled by Amazon or Merchant Fulfilled) and Amazon retail and are based on indicators of the experience that customers expect from Amazon Prime. For an offer to be Prime-eligible, it needs to (1) be available nationwide, and (2) offer free shipping, and (3) offer free returns for Prime members (with limited exceptions on product weight and cross-border shipments).

Sellers can use any logistics provider (carrier) for their Seller Fulfilled Prime orders; we no longer require sellers to use Buy Shipping services to purchase shipping labels. All offers enrolled in Prime will benefit from Amazon’s high-quality customer service support which will be provided at no additional cost.

Best practices for developers

Best practices to list in Selling Partner Appstore

i) Keep an accessible and secure website: A Developer website must be accessible, not requiring a login to access its homepage, and must be secure for seller use i.e. Website links must begin with https rather than http.

ii) Do not use Amazon Trademarks: Developer listing or website cannot include Trademarked Amazon words that are identical to or confusingly similar to Amazon trademarks.
**Please also note: The app's pricing must match the prices on the developer's website. In some cases, a developer's pricing model states "Contact developer for quote," which eliminates the requirement to match pricing.**

Best practices to protect your data

i) Secure Data with strong encryption such as AES-256 or similar strength: Developers have a process to rotate keys at defined intervals (at least annually) to limit the blast radius of an exposed key.

ii) Enable strong passwords and forced expiration to avoid credentials getting exposed: Developers must enable strong passwords (try to enable multi factor authentication [MFA] when possible), with forced expiration, at least annually, and must not hardcode credentials in codebase.

Check out more guidance on protecting your data here:

Best practices for security engineering

i) Mitigate unauthorized access of your account by not storing credentials in public repositories: Developers must not store Marketplace Web Services (MWS) API and Selling Partner API (SP-API) credentials in any public repositories as they are the developer company’s unique credentials to communicate and enable access to MWS and SP-API calls.

ii) Prevent leak of MWS and SP-API credentials by thoroughly vetting source code: Developers must thoroughly vet their company source code before uploading to any potential public repository and/or when adding files to a “.gitignore” list.
